Server Side Includes (SSI) is a simple server-side language, which allows you to include text from a specific source in a website. In the most popular case, the text from a single file is incorporated in a second one, giving a site the feeling that it is dynamic. For example, in case your website is made of 10 pages, 5 of them can have the content of any kind of file, like horoscope.txt. If you alter this text file, the modified content will come up on all five webpages, which will allow you to update your site much easier than if you had to update an element of all 5 web pages. Server Side Includes is in some cases utilized to contain the output of simple commands, scripts or functions as well - a hit counter that's shown on the website, the current time and date or the visitor's IP address. Any web page that employs SSI will need to have a special extension - .shtml.

Server Side Includes in Cloud Web Hosting

It will be easy to use Server Side Includes with all of the cloud web hosting packages that we provide and enable it individually for every single domain name or subdomain in your own hosting account. You can do this with an .htaccess file, which should be positiioned in the folder in which you wish to use SSI and you need to type in a couple of lines of code in that file. You can see the code within our Knowledgebase area, so you're able to just copy and paste it, as you don't need any programming capabilities to benefit from all of the characteristics that our solutions come with. If you have currently built your site and you wish to use Server Side Includes later on, you will need to make certain that you rename the files from .html to .shtml and fix the links on the website, or else SSI won't work.
